Set within the rugged landscape of the Santa Monica Mountains, this hillside home embraces a minimalist palette of wood, concrete, steel, and stone. Against this striking backdrop, the hardwood floors provide a unifying element that brings warmth and natural refinement to the interior.

The Project

BoardHouse 13.5" wide Shrunk Face French Oak planks were finished to highlight the wood’s inherent character while complementing the industrial board form concrete and steel detailing. The oak planks balance the raw material palette, introducing organic grain and variation that softens the modern lines of the structure and invites in light.

With planks up to 18' long, this floor brings scale to the residence, stretching the hallways and large living spaces. BoardHouse was also commissioned to build the custom stair treads and wine racks out of Solid Oak.
